A sofa is an expensive item in your household and so you want to take care of it so that it stays in optimal condition. Here are a few things you may want to do before storing your sofa as well as a few tips on how to store it in your storage unit.
Before you store...
Remove all dirt, dust and pet hair by brushing or vacuuming your sofa. Don’t forget the sides, the arms and the back.
Remove all cushions and vacuum underneath.
If you find any stains, you may want to remove them using specialised detergent. The longer a stain stays, the more difficult it will be to remove.
For leather sofas, there are specific products you can use. They will clean but also leave a protective coating on the leather.
REMEMBER: You must let your furniture completely dry before you store it. We don’t want mold or mildew.
At the storage unit...
Best position is on its four feet. However, if you decide to store it on its side, remember that if it is for a long period of time, the armrest foam may collapse.
Place a protective cover over all soft furnishing. We have covers in our packaging shop but remember you can also use old sheets, blankets or bedspreads.
Consider hiring a shelf. The sofa can be placed under the first shelf and the shelves above can be used as storage. No space is wasted! Ask our friendly staff.
To move a sofa, do not lift it by the cushions or move it by dragging it around, instead lift it from the base. Remember to bend the knees!
Do not place anything heavy on the cushions. This will deform them, forever…
