Maximising Space in Your Storage Unit

10/3/2017

Maximising Space in Storage Unit
You are ready to move into your storage unit.  Before you just dump everything into it, let’s look at a few pointers on how you can fully utilise the space you have at your disposal.

Use Boxes

Use boxes as much as possible.  Not only do they protect your items but they also stack well, allowing more to be stored.  Bags on the other hand, don’t stack so well!

Ensure all your boxes have a lid so that they can stack.

Use sturdy boxes of the same size.  We all know from our Tetris days that they will stack better that way.

Disassemble Furniture

Unscrew the legs of your dining table, if possible.  Make sure all screws and other hardware are placed in a bag and taped to the piece of furniture they belong to.

Remove the planks from your bed frames and tie them up together.  Disassemble the bed frame if possible.

Remove lamp shades from your lamps and stack them together.

Stack, Stack, Stack

The magic word when it comes to saving space is STACKING.  The more you stack, the more you maximise your space.  But it must be done in such a way that nothing gets damaged and things are easily accessible.

Place heavy boxes at the bottom of the pile to create a solid base.

Do not stack higher than you can reach.  Think safety.

Hope you haven’t overfilled your boxes!  They’ll no longer be square and with time will collapse.

Place items under tables and fill empty furniture spaces such as drawers, shelves or wardrobe.  However, don’t overfill with heavy items.

Consider hiring a shelf from us.  The sofa can be placed under the first shelf and the shelves above can be used as storage.   Ask our friendly staff.

Stack chairs seat to seat.
But REMEMBER:
Do NOT  stack on top of soft furnishing.
Do NOT stack on top  of fragile items.
Do NOT store items in the fridge.
